B. Shane Asbury, M.D.
Life-long interests in sports and becoming a physician led Dr. Asbury to orthopaedic medicine. After MOC’s Dr. Todd Griffith repaired his torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), Dr. Asbury’s career path became “a calling more than a career.”
As much as he enjoys the technical demands of surgery, interactions with patients and positively affecting an individual’s quality of life are Dr. Asbury’s greatest rewards in the practice of medicine. His medical specialties are sports medicine, hip and knee arthroplasty, foot and ankle treatment, and fracture care.
A Maryville native, Dr. Asbury played sports at and graduated from Maryville High School, earned a bachelor’s degree in biology with honors from Maryville College, and received his doctor of medicine degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. He completed an internship and an orthopaedic surgery residency at the UT College of Medicine’s Chattanooga Unit in Erlanger Hospital.
Leisure time will find Dr. Asbury spending time with wife, Dr. Laura Asbury, a pediatrician, and their son Landon. He enjoys sports, calling himself an avid UT football and basketball fan. He also enjoys fishing and other outdoor activities.
